OPI Texas Collection 2011 Swatches and Review

I ordered my Texas Collection Monday and received it Thursday! I was so excited, and then when I swatched the polishes....ummmm not so much. I will explain why under the pics. I only ordered six out of the ten polishes from the collection.

Don't Mess With OPI
It's like a grassy green. It is very pretty but it's very close to OPIs Jade is the New Black.
My thumb is painted in Jade is the New Black (bottle on the left). As you can see they are only like a half a shade off, and personally I like Jade is the New Black better. Both very pretty colors, but I hate that I bought a color I basically already had.

Suzi Loves Cowboys

Suzi Loves Cowboys is a rich brown, a little lighter than what OPI has been previously releasing. I really like the brown. I think it's very pretty, but probably the lightest I can go because of my skin tone.

Y'all Come Back Ya Hear
Y'all Come Back Ya Hear, is one of OPIs new sorbet formulas. It's made to be translucent and shiny, a new look for this upcoming summer. I personally, don't like the translucent/semi-opaque look, so this four coats. Its a pretty orange nonetheless.

Now here's what I was NOT excited about. The next three colors look identical.

This is Houston We Have A Purple. Honestly, in person it's not this purple. Really, it's not purple at all (disappointment). This is a sorbet color with three coats.

Too Hot Pink To Hold Em is probably my favorite of the sorbets. This is three coats, and looks mostly opaque.

Do You Think I'm Tex'y? No I do not, because you look exactly like the other two polishes. In person it's not as pink as Too Hot Pink To Hold Em. This is also three coats.

I feel like I was let down by the Texas Collection. The green is very similar to Jade is the New Black from the Hong Kong Collection which was not released too long ago. Even though I am not a fan of the sorbet formula, I would have been more enthused if the colors weren't so similar. I would suggest you save your money and buy only one of the above sorbets.

How to Apply Sorbets:
  1. Start with one thin coat (start at your pinky)
  2. Let it COMPLETELY dry before your second coat
  3. If you want it more opaque, apply a third coat
  4. Follow with top coat, even though the polish alone is very shiny
Enjoy!

OPI's *New* Formula

OPI has original, matte, suede, shatter, jelly, and now...........Sorbet! Sorbet is like the jelly formula on crack. It is semi-opaque, super shiny, and ready for summer. This new formula is used in the OPI Texas Collection polishes for Spring 2011: Y'all Come Back Ya Hear, Guy Meets Gal-veston, Big Hair...Big Nails, Too Hot Pink to Hold 'Em, Do You Think I'm Tex'y, and Houston We Have A Purple. I blogged about it a few entries below.

You can use a white base coat under the jelly polish if you would like it more opaque.

I already ordered: Houston We Have A Purple, Do You Think I'm Tex'y, Too Hot Pink to Hold Them, Big Hair...Big Nails, Suzi Loves Cowboys, and Don't Mess With OPI. Hopefully they are here soon for me to swatch.

This was taken from OPI:

OPI Launches Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011

OPI comes “home” to the USA with timeless style in the Texas Collection forSpring/Summer 2011. These vivid shades are as iconic as images of an American summer – adding a fresh, effortlessly chic look for nails and toes.
“Texas provided the inspiration for this season, with bright colors and classic neutrals that draw from the American spirit,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “Taking cues from the state’s naturally beautiful backdrop, the Texas Collection features warm tones from honey and tangerine to dazzling hues of violet and sky blue.”
This season, American classics come to life with sunny peach (Big Hair…Big Nails) and vivid honeysuckle (Too Hot Pink to Hold ‘Em).  Lush berry (Houston We Have a Purple) and grassy green (Don’t Mess with OPI) add a splash of the USA’s most vibrant colors to the season’s must-have neutrals (San Tan-tonio).
“The Texas Collection complements trends from the runway, where white made an appearance as the new black,” explains Suzi.  “Wearing these colors on fingers and toes will accessorize the season’s must-have pieces – from brightly colored botanical prints and filmy scarves to relaxed trousers and jackets and fuller, longer skirts – all done in shades of white, ivory, cream and taupe.”

Just Ordered the Crackle Collection!

Update: I just received an e-mail from the company I ordered the Crackle Glaze from. They will not be able to ship it until mid-February (sad, I know), because of delays with China Glaze.

China Glaze is also releasing it's own Crackle Collection called Crackle Glaze. I'm so excited because they come in more colors besides black! They have white, gray, pink, blue, purple, and black of course. I should be able to swatch by the end of the week! I ordered all of them except black, because I have one from another brand, and I'm just not a huge fan of gray.

I also ordered the new OPI Texas Collection last night, that should be here by the end of the week too.

This should be released by the end of January, end of February to retailers.

YEEEEEE-HAWWWWW for OPI Texas!

UPDATE: So I've hearing that a few Trade Secrets have been selling the OPI Texas Collection already. I've called the one in my area, but they said they are not selling it until 2/2/11. But I've seen people in other states have went out and bought theirs... I'll keep this as updated at possible.

Hey y'all (in my Beyonce' voice)! So OPI is releasing the Texas Collection for Spring on February 2, 2011.  It should be released to all Ultas, Trade Secrets, JC Penneys, etc.... It would be cool if the bottles were larger than normal, since "everything is bigger in Texas." OOOooo how I would love to be on OPI's marketing team. Definitely my dream job...hmmmmm....

So here's a few pics....!

Too Hot Pink to Hold 'Em hot reddish pink
Do You Think I'm Tex'y a berry polish jelly
Houston We Have a Purple red violet jelly
Suzi Loves Cowboys chocolate brown
I Want to Be A-lone Star star blue
It's Totally Fort Worth It lavender grey
Austin-tatious turquoise
Don't Mess With OPI a forest green
Y'all Come Back Ya Hear orange tangerine jelly
Guy Meets Gal-veston coral
Big Hair-Big Nails rosy pink
San Tan-ontio honey tan

I'm so excited for Suzi Loves Cowboys! It's like a real chocolate brown, very unique. The green (Don't Mess With OPI) is also very pretty, but I'm sure I have a dupe for that. It's looks just a shade or two lighter than Jade is the New Black, from the Hong Kong Collection. The rest of the colors just look similar to colors that have already released. The orange looks very see-through, so you may need to layer a white polish under it (unless you like the jelly look of course).
